Grandscapes has this Manhattan Skyline poster that took over 3 years to design. They are supposedly working on some new ones, but I’m not sure for what city.

FUD

Ever wonder: what does FUD mean?

FUD stands for Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt. It is a marketing technique used when a competitor launches a product that is both better than yours and costs less, i.e. your product is no longer competitive. Unable to respond with hard facts, scare-mongering is used via ‘gossip channels’ to cast a shadow of doubt over the competitors offerings and make people think twice before using it.

Whitespace

Design Matters: White space is one of a couple nice articles about designing, but mostly about designing websites. Its not technical and worth a look, me thinks:

Why is white space so important? Part of the reason is pshychological, and part of it is physical: the text needs room to breathe. When text crowds all the way to the edge, it leaves us feeling crowded and cramped. Long passages of text, written edge to edge can actually tire the eyes.

Lawrence Falling

For anybody else who went to Lawrence University in Appleton, WI – there is some bad news over here usnews.com: America’s Best Colleges 2004: Liberal Arts Colleges-Bachelor’s (Nationally) Top Schools. It looks like we’ve fallen down to 51. Luckily, however, they group the top 100 in the same list now, so it doesn’t look too bad and I guess we can still say we are “top tier”… I guess.
